Eating Out vs. Dining Out

Eating out is with your kids, and Dining out is you and your spouse, you and your friends, basically, you and no children.  Having said that, we did some Eating out this past weekend and I have to mention two great kid friendly places on the Westside of LA.

Mexican Food is a somewhat of a Sunday tradition in our house.  This past Sunday we had to celebrate some extended family birthday’s and went to Casa Escobar in Santa Monica, which my kids refer to as the Pinata Palace.  There is a room in the back that can accommodate a good sized party, that has pinatas of all kinds hanging from the ceiling.  The Mexican fare is fair, of the grubby Mexican variety, but the kids dig it, and the service is friendly and speedy.

With the beautiful weather today and since I am preparing for a trip today there was no cooking today (tomorrow yes!).  We went out yet again for dinner and hit up the new yogurt place on Montana Avenue, Menchies.  Pinkberry makes me sick, and I don’t really understand all the hoop-la over it.  Menchies I really dig.  It is self-serve yogurt and toppings.  They have a super variety of flavors tonight there was: Vanilla, Chocolate, Pistachio, Dulce De Leche, Red Velvet Cake, Hawaiian Sorbet, Tart, Cookies and Cream, and about 4 others I know I am forgetting.  Kids (and hell, even my husband and I enjoyed it).  The only bummer is they don’t have kid sized cups, but thankfully the yogurt dispenses slowly so portion control isn’t bad. Plus it is actual yogurt with live and active cultures, high in calcium, with low to no fat.   So you can’t feel too bad about it.
